Creative Development News – January 2024

Special casting call for Accidental Bride Creative Development (February 2024).
JUTE is calling for Indian actors to participate in an exciting Creative Development. Accidental Bride is a brand-new play by Shoba Sadler, a published writer, journalist, and emerging playwright of Indian heritage who also happens to hail from the Far North and, of course, is a proud graduate of JUTE’s Write Sparks script development program (2022).

The script is a delightful Bollywood-style rom-com that follows the lives of Anil and Ashwin, two charismatic Indian brothers navigating the challenges of love, tradition, and cross-cultural misunderstandings in an Australian-based Indian wedding textile company.

In this exciting collaboration, Shoba will join forces with JUTE and the Cairns Indian community to develop the script through a series of workshops throughout the year.  The first Creative Development will culminate in a public showcase to be held at Bulmba-ja on Sunday, 25 February 2024, at 3.30 pm.

To participate, actors must be available on Saturday afternoons, 3, 10 and 17 February, from 2 pm to 5 pm and Saturday, 24 and Sunday, 25 February, from 9 am to 5 pm at Bulmba-ja Arts Centre.
