If you are excited about the idea of developing your acting, stage craft and ensemble work, then JUTE Actors Studio will provide you with the development of your creative capacity and deepen your understanding of acting as a professional practice.

You will need a sense of play, imagination, intelligence and a passion for theatre. A level of discipline and commitment to the training is expected from all students.

There are three different programs for 2022. The regular JAS classes for youth aged 9-17, an extension program for more experience actors aged 15-17 (JASX) as well as participants aged 18-27.

This year is broken up in two semesters, so each semester (and corresponding semester fee) equals 2 school terms. Payment plans are available – just contact the office to arrange (info@jute.com.au / 07 42816832).

JAS XL: $825 (through audition process only) 3 spots available. 18 weeks x 2 hours/week, end of semester showcase. Includes Free ticket to I is Maggie Preview.

JAS X: $2186.25 (through audition process only. 3 spots available.) 4 hours/week x 18 weeks, professional production season in November, 1 x remaining special guest ‘bootcamp’ (Clowning with Clint Bolster). Free ticket to I is Maggie Preview.

JAS (AGES 9-17)

A JUTE Actors Studio program for 9-17 year old emerging actors.

JUTE Theatre Company invites young, emerging actors aged 9-17 to join up for an exciting actor training program, designed to assist young people to gather skills for theatre and life skills such as creativity, teamwork and self-confidence.

The program would appeal to young people who want to learn and practice theatre skills in a professional theatre company environment.

The JAS year is split into two semesters (February 7 to June 25 and July 11 to November 27), with tuition from a trained professional facilitator once a week. Classes are limited to 15 participants. Over the year, the actors will gain skills in a wide range of critical theatre skills such as voice, characterisation, devising, improvisation, and text analysis.

Each semester will culminate in a showcase performed by the actors for an invited audience, with feedback from a panel of professional theatre practitioners.

JASX (EXTENSION PROGRAM FOR AGES 15-17)

A JUTE Actors Studio Extension program for 15 to 17-year-old emerging actors.
JUTE Theatre Company invites emerging actors aged 15 to 17 to audition for JASX, an intensive one-year program designed specifically for teenage actors with their sights set on a professional career.

JASX offers opportunity for 8 young and emerging actors to follow a professional pathway, gather critical skills to support their development as a theatre practitioner, and gain insights into working and thriving in the theatre industry.

The JASX year is split into two semesters (February 7 to June 25 and July 11 to November 27), with tuition from two leading professional facilitators, two hours every Monday evening and two hours every Saturday morning. There will also be full days of actor’s boot camp with special guest drama skills facilitators during the June school holidays, picking up specialist acting skills, for example stage combat and accents.

That’s a total over 160 hours of professional tuition.

But best of all, the year will culminate in a professional season of a new work for young people performed by the actors and part of the official JUTE annual performance season.

Actors should prepare two contrasting monologues for the audition.

To assist with this preparation, please see the resources here including suggested
monologues. Please note, you cannot audition with a script in your hand.

In order to audition, you will need parental consent. Please read the audition brief, then ask your parents to read it, sign it if they agree to the conditions, and then hand the document back to JUTE staff. The brief outlines your important obligations should you be selected to the program and the conditions of your participation. The brief also asks your parents to be aware of your obligations, as well as the performance content. You will need a parent to give their permission for you to work with young adult themes in a performance context with the rest of the group. Without parental consent, you cannot audition.

Audition monologues

JAS XL (EXTENSION PROGRAM FOR AGES 18-27)

A JUTE Actors Studio Excel program for 18-27 year old emerging actors.

JUTE Theatre Company invites young, emerging actors aged 18 and over to audition for JASXL, an intensive one-year program designed specifically for actors with their sights set on a professional career.

JASXL offers opportunity for 8 young and emerging actors to build on their professional pathway, practice critical skills to support their development as a theatre practitioner, and be supported with practical skills for working and thriving in the regional theatre industry context.

The JASXL year is split into two semesters (February 7 to June 25 and July 11 to November 27), with tuition from a trained professional facilitator, Julia Allman two hours every Saturday morning over 36 weeks.

The year will culminate in a one-night professional production of a new work performed by the actors, and part of the official JUTE annual performance season.
