‘Is My Lipstick On Straight’ by Susan Prince 29 May – 13 June 2015, JUTE Theatre, Centre of Contemporary Arts, 96 Abbott St, Cairns.
In this open, honest and witty one-woman show written and performed by Susan Prince, we are taken on a personal journey through a theatrical life.
Gem has many loves, but theatre is the love of her life. She discovers her gift for performance at the age of 4 and from that first spark creates her world through a patchwork of invented characters she plays.
Yet how does marriage, motherhood, cherished dreams – and their stifled lack of fruition – affect this spirited individual?
Find out, as Susan Prince creates a hilarious telling of a magical life in theatre.
The play is an insight into the life of an actor, but also the life of woman pursuing her dreams despite the multiple obstacles she encounters, including epilepsy.
“My key dramatic question is ‘Who am I without theatre’” says Susan Prince. “And yet, no matter what, you can be anything you want,” she adds.
JUTE’s CEO & Artistic Director Suellen Maunder will be directing the play.
Susan is one of the most dangerous actors I know, and not only because a fit on stage is constantly with her, but because Susan is one of those actors who creates an intimate bond with the audience and has no fear on stage. She is so genuine and has such wonderful stagecraft that it’s often hard to take your eyes off her when she’s on stage. It will be a real treat to direct Susan again in such a magical, fun story, and it will be a real joy to be part of this work.
