FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Playlab to publish 3 new works from JUTE Theatre Company Cairns,
22 June 2015
Playlab, the national organisation dedicated to the development and promotion of new playwriting, has chosen to publish 3 new works developed and produced by JUTE Theatre Company of Cairns, North Queensland.
The three plays are Proper Solid by Steven Oliver, Propelled by Jane Modric, and Delirium by Amy Bell.
Suellen Maunder, AD/CEO and Artistic Director of JUTE Theatre Company says she was thrilled when she heard the news.
“It’s a mark of recognition for the work we do, especially our New Works Department that takes a draft script, story, or even an idea, and for ten days works it into shape and on to the next level. These are exciting, vibrant playwrights with stories to tell, taking wing and finding bigger, broader audiences for themselves.
“We’re excited for them as we watch their recognition and bodies of work grow. We are very happy for Amy, Steven and Jane and I know they’re thrilled at the news as well.”
Ian Lawson, AD/CEO of Playlab said the decision to publish new works from JUTE was an easy one.
“JUTE Theatre Company is a very important player in the development of new works nationally and we want to recognise that and support them to make their great work accessable to the whole country. They need to be acknowledged for their courage… embracing new ideas and fostering emerging regional writers is hugely important work.
” He says that the plays were chosen for their quality, diversity, strong themes and artistic vibrancy.
The publication will be available from early 2016.
