GRIT by Perseverance Street Theatre Company

Regional Tour

Gympie: 22-24 February
Townsville: 1 March
Cairns: 7-9 March
Rockhampton: 13 March
Bundaberg: 15 March

Six people, all living in a regional town, somewhere in Australia. These are their stories. These are their songs.

The saint finds her purpose in her love and care for others. The romantic finds solace in memories and music. A laugh, a guitar and a chainsaw are all the recluse needs to face his demons, whilst the runaway craves a full tank and the the town in the rear- view mirror. The rationalist keeps a cool head believing only in science and opera, and the nomad finds her identity and a home through her creativity.

Production details

Developed in 2022 in the wake of devastating floods, GRIT is an original work inspired by regional stories of strength and resilience. Co-devised by the Perseverance Street Theatre Company team in collaboration with the Gympie community, it honours regional voices, new storytelling, and connection with people and place.

In its 2024 season, GRIT has evolved to include voices and stories from regional peers. This tour, presented by JUTE Theatre Company (Cairns), Topology I RASN NQ (Townsville), Midpoint Theatre Company (Rockhampton) and Bridges Health and Community Care (Bundaberg), evidences theatre’s important role in celebrating and sharing the regional experience.
