In late 1992, three regional theatre practitioners in Cairns, Suellen Maunder, Kathryn Ash and Susan Prince, decided to create a professional theatre company.
Right from the start of JUTE’s humble beginnings, the company’s aim was to create capacity for the development of new work— stories from the region, generated in the region and performed with regional voices fully in the limelight.
