A JUTE Theatre Company and Centacare Multicultural Services
In partnership with Centacare Migrant Services, JUTE Theatre Company will host four local Artists-in-Residence next week at Bulmba-ja Arts Centre along with 15-20 young artists from refugee and migrant backgrounds. The theme of the week is “In My Shoes, Stepping Up and Out”, talking about change, continuity, adaptability and giving the audience a bold expression of what it is to take on a new life in Cairns.
The week will culminate in a showcase performance on Friday December 18, 2020 in the Bulmba-ja Arts Centre Theatre at 6pm. It will be an exciting night of culture – song, dance, art and singing- and new work.
Our four artists –
- Susan Prince – a highly experienced theatre workshop facilitator with over 35 years of experience
- David Hudson – a Ewamian/ Western Yalanji First Nations Man, who is internationally respected, high calibre fine artist, musician, singer, dancer, storyteller and performer
- Rubina Kimiia – an educator, songwriter and arranger, choir director, studio vocalist, musician of Polynesian heritage from Samoa and the Cook Islands
- Simona Cosentini – Cairns based theatre designer who brings a wealth of design skills in costume props and sets
Our Showcase at Bulmba-Ja Arts Centre will take the form of a performance piece of storytelling (song, music, movement, visual art, dialogue in language) with question and answers afterwards with the artists and participants.
